The Crozes-Hermitage appellation

Northern Rhône Valley

Terroir

Granite subsoil, sandy deposits or stony terraces, the terroirs are very diverse, ranging from the hillsides to the north to the alluvial plains to the south. As a result, the red and white wines produced are equally varied. The warm, dry Mediterranean climate is enhanced by south-facing sunshine.

Grape varieties

Syrah (minimum 85%) for the red wines, marsanne and roussanne for the white wines.

Wine style

The wines from the north of the appellation are reds of character, closer to the AOC Hermitages, structured and good for laying down. Those from the south are less powerful, fruity and should be drunk younger. The dry white wines of Crozes-Hermitage are fresh and fruity, with citrus aromas.
