The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation

Southern Rhône Valley

Terroir

Made up of vast terraces covered in red clay mixed with numerous rolled quartz pebbles, this terroir is located on the left bank of the Rhône, between Avignon and Orange.

Grape varieties

Châteauneuf-du-Pape uses 13 grape varieties.
Black grenache dominates the reds, with Mourvèdre and Syrah.
For the whites: white grenache, clairette, bourboulenc and roussanne.
The grapes have to be hand-picked.

Wine style

The red wines are complex, powerful, full-bodied and well-balanced. Full-bodied on the palate, they develop a powerful nose with notes of undergrowth. The intense garnet-red colour is the result of a wide range of aromas of ripe fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), spices and roasting. The best vintages can be enjoyed in bottle for several decades.

The golden-coloured white wines are rich and aromatic, full-bodied and slightly mellow.
Their strong fruit and floral notes evolve towards honey and woody aromas over the years.
